Reading Light
A nightstand lamp for iPhone
Set your iPhone Duo down open and the whole screen glows. The hinge is the dimmer.
How it works
- Hinge
- On iPhone Duo, close the hinge a little to dim, open it to brighten, close it fully to switch off. On any other iPhone, or on the Duo's outer display, drag up or down anywhere on the light to dim.
- Warmth
- Turn the dial along the edge, from daylight down to candlelight. Past candlelight the scale gives way to Ember, a deep red for night vision and a sleeping partner.
- Sleep timer
- Tap the moon and the light turns itself off after your usual length; tap again to keep it on. Touch and hold the moon for other lengths. In the last minute, a touch on the light gives you ten more minutes.
- Controls
- Everything fades away after a few seconds. Touch the screen to bring it back.
- Siri, Shortcuts, Control Center
- "Turn On Reading Light", "Start Sleep Timer" and "Start Sunrise" are available to Shortcuts and Siri. A Control Center control opens the lamp; it can go on the Lock Screen or the Action button too.
Questions
- The light does not dim with the hinge.
- The hinge dimmer needs iPhone Duo on iOS 27.1 or later, with the inner display in use. On iOS 27.0 the app works as a manual light: drag up or down to dim.
- My brightness was changed.
- The app sets the screen brightness while it is open and restores your own when you leave. If it was interrupted, Control Center puts it back.
- The screen went dark on its own.
- The sleep timer ended. Touch the screen to bring the light back.
